The plant reaches 60–90 cm in height and width. The leaves are narrow with serrated edges, characterized by a dark purple-black color. Small flowers are collected in dense, dome-shaped corymbose inflorescences up to 10–12 cm in diameter, possessing a light fragrance.

Flowering occurs from summer to autumn; with regular removal of faded inflorescences, re-flowering is possible. The plant is resistant to pests, particularly slugs and snails. In mild climates, it overwinters as a perennial; in cold regions, it is grown as a half-hardy annual.

The variety is widely used as a crop for cutting, although due to the weight of the inflorescences, the stems may require support. It belongs to the summer-flowering cycle crops.
