The Leisi variety is a farm landrace, also known as Leisi-Wagenburg, originating from the Canton of Zurich. As a representative of the Mattenklee type, it differs from field clovers by its higher productivity, better protein yield, and greater persistence in grass mixtures.

This variety was included among the first recommended forage plants in Switzerland and served as the genetic basis for breeding a number of international varieties. The designation Mattenklee t.leisi is an archival entry indicating the sample's affiliation with this group of traditional local clovers.
