The variety was obtained through mass selection from botanical garden materials, followed by individual selection and cross-breeding under drought conditions. The plant belongs to an annual species of the legume family, having a long, weakly branching taproot and erect or semi-erect hollow stems. Large elliptical or lanceolate leaves have a distinct white pattern, and inflorescences in the form of round-ovate heads are colored white, pinkish-white, or crimson-white.
The variety is early-maturing, characterized by slow initial development and drought tolerance. When cultivated for forage, it usually provides two cuts and is suitable for pure stands or mixtures with other grasses, such as annual ryegrass. It is used as a forage and cover crop and is also attractive to insect pollinators.
