The variety belongs to the winter triticale crop (Triticosecale Wittm. ex A. Camus). It is primarily used in livestock production, although there are studies on its application in the baking industry.
The variety demonstrates reduced survival in extremely harsh winter conditions, which is characteristic of European varieties when grown in other climatic zones. Prego is the subject of scientific research aimed at evaluating tolerance to pre-harvest sprouting and yield stability under various weather conditions.
