The Tömzsi variety is mentioned in Hungarian breeding publications of the 1970s as one of the early forms of triticale. Researchers of that period noted that the variety had a significant stem height, which caused it to exhibit susceptibility to lodging on fertile soils, and it also yielded less than intensive wheat varieties.
In comparative trials, the grain bulk density of the variety varied in the range from 60 to 71.6 kg/hl. In agricultural research of that time, the Tömzsi triticale was considered primarily as a forage crop.
