The wheat variety Imbros genetically carries the Glu-B1h allele, which encodes the glutenin subunits 1Bx14 + 1By15. These protein components significantly influence baking properties, determining the strength and elasticity of the dough, which is why the variety is often used for biochemical studies of grain quality.

In scientific literature, the variety is considered a valuable genetic resource for breeding programs. It is used in crossbreeding to improve grain quality characteristics and increase resistance to leaf rust in new hybrid wheat forms.
