The Swedjet variety is used as an object in breeding research to increase crop resistance to diseases and is maintained in global genetic resource bank collections.
In scientific literature, the variety is noted for possessing field resistance to powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis). It is also used in experimental crosses to study the genetic mechanisms of resistance to Fusarium head blight and the reduction of mycotoxin accumulation in grain.
