The variety was selected from the MSFRS Quality Pop population and had the experimental designation FMC D5171-1 during breeding. The plant is characterized by low lodging resistance due to weak straw strength.

Bravadur possesses resistance to leaf rust and moderate resistance to powdery mildew. The variety shows moderate susceptibility to stem rust and barley yellow dwarf virus. The grain of the variety is used for pasta production.
