The variety Gabbiano is semi-dwarf, which is due to the presence of height-reducing genes derived from the bread wheat varieties Mara and Marzotto. The presence of these genes contributes to increased lodging resistance.
In phytopathological studies, the variety demonstrates a level of susceptibility to Fusarium head blight and rust, ranging from susceptible to moderately susceptible depending on test conditions. Intended for food purposes, particularly for the production of pasta and semolina.
