The Jaap Groot variety belongs to the Darwin hybrid group and is a mutation of the Golden Apeldoorn variety. The plant reaches a height of 40 to 60 cm. The foliage is decorative, adorned with a cream-white border along the edge.

The flowers are large, bicolored: the petals have a melon-yellow or bright yellow color with a cream or ivory margin. The base of the flower is black. The variety is mid-season, with the flowering period occurring in April and May.

The plant has strong stems that are resistant to weather conditions such as wind and rain. The variety is suitable for cultivation in gardens, parks, and containers, and for use as cut flowers.
