The FL 02-40 variety, known under the trade name Kestrel, belongs to the southern highbush blueberry group. It is characterized by a very early maturity period: under northern Florida conditions, 50% of the berries ripen by April 21. The requirement for a rest period at temperatures below 7°C is approximately 200 hours.

The plant has high vigor and abundant early spring leafing. The berries are characterized by a firm texture, sweet taste, and a specific aromatic profile due to a high content of terpenoids.
