The variety is a compact and dense upright shrub 1.5–2.5 meters tall with a crown width of 1.5–2 meters. The leaves are lanceolate, glossy, and change color from bronze on young shoots to dark green in summer and bright red-burgundy or crimson in autumn.
Flowering occurs in May-June with white flowers gathered in panicles. After flowering, fruits are formed which change color from bright red to black as they ripen.
The plant is adapted to USDA climate zones 7–9. The variety shows susceptibility to bacterial leaf spot, powdery mildew, crown gall, as well as infestation by aphids and scale insects.
