The variety was developed based on local Serbian populations. Research on its study and the maintenance of genetic diversity was conducted by specialists at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad.

The variety is characterized by a thousand kernel weight of approximately 51 grams. In genetic analyses, it clusters together with the Beograd variety and other regional samples. It is one of the most widespread varieties in Serbia.
