BC 590 is a historical maize hybrid that was widely used by producers for a decade after its introduction. In agronomic sources, this hybrid is referred to as "Bc 590", while the designation "A" is not distinguished as an independent variety or separate hybrid and may be a technical or archival code.
To date, modern morphological characteristics, such as plant height or disease resistance, are not described in current catalogues. The Institute has moved on to creating new generations of hybrids, while BC 590 retains its significance as an important stage in the history of the breeding programme.
