The maize hybrid named Dekalb 12 appeared in official agricultural reports and variety lists of the 1970s, including publications of the European Communities and documents of the Ministry of Agriculture of Mauritius. The variety is associated with the Dekalb Genetics Corporation brand, which was engaged in the breeding of hybrid crops.

Studies from 1974 noted the hybrid's ability to produce yield in waterlogged zones without irrigation and its general adaptability to various climatic conditions. At the same time, data on parental lines, breeding methods, as well as current agronomic and morphological characteristics of the plant are not provided in available sources.
