The hybrid PR39V17 is a transgenic variety containing the MON810 genetic insertion, which provides the plant with resistance to damage by European corn borer larvae through the production of a specific Bacillus thuringiensis bacterial toxin.

This hybrid was widely used as an object in field trials and scientific reports studying the coexistence of GM crops and conventional varieties in European countries between 2005 and 2009. The variety Sandrina served as the isogenic line for comparison in these studies.

Precise agronomic characteristics, including maturity group, plant height, or yield indicators, are not detailed in available publications, as the hybrid's main value for science was its biotechnological properties and regulatory issues.
