Line 78002A was obtained by crossing B73 and A634 forms. It belongs to the Stiff Stalk Synthetic (SSS) group and represents a valuable genetic resource for breeding work aimed at increasing hybrid productivity and resistance.
In studies of resistance to common smut (Ustilago maydis), the line is classified as moderately resistant. The plant was also studied in the context of the genetic architecture of stalk lodging resistance. The line is intended for the creation of commercial hybrids, not for cultivation as an independent variety.
