The hybrid Marano 0501 is used in the scientific community as a model organism, in particular for studying phytopathologies. It is not intended for commercial agricultural production and does not possess the productivity characteristics typical of production varieties.
In scientific literature, this hybrid is valued for its predictable susceptibility to fungal diseases, such as Fusarium graminearum and Fusarium proliferatum. Due to this property, it is used as a "standard" when testing fungicides and seed treatment methods, for example, using low-temperature plasma.
Classic agronomic traits, such as plant height or maturity group, have not been determined for this hybrid, as they are not the subject of research. Genetically, it is not related to the traditional Italian variety Marano.
