The maize hybrid PX 74 was developed by Northrup King & Co and was widely used in field trials in the USA throughout the 1970s and 1980s. It was included in comparative studies of yield, grain moisture, and lodging indicators along with other commercial varieties of that period.
In the 1990s, the hybrid's seeds were used in scientific studies related to the investigation of plant water regimes and the efficacy of fungicide application in seed treatment. Detailed morphological descriptions and data on the maturity group for this hybrid are unavailable in open sources.
