Anthracnose of hairy vetch

A fungal disease of hairy vetch caused primarily by the pathogen Colletotrichum villosum. It manifests as characteristic dark brown spots on the vegetative parts and pods of the plant.

The primary causal agent of anthracnose in hairy vetch is the fungus Colletotrichum villosum; an association between the crop and the pathogen Colletotrichum truncatum has also been established. The disease affects the aerial organs of the plant, including leaves, petioles, stems, and pod valves.

Symptoms include the formation of individual dark brown spots measuring 1–5 × 1–2 mm, which may lighten in the center over time. On stems and pods, the spots often become streak-like and dark purple in color, eventually turning black. Point-like sporodochia with a diameter of up to 500 μm form along the leaf veins.
