Peduncle — Echinacea (hybrids)

When describing hybrid forms of Echinacea, the peduncle height is measured as the total length of the reproductive shoot from the soil level to the top of the inflorescence during peak bloom. Compact cultivars reach a height of 25–50 cm, while tall forms can grow up to 90–120 cm or more, which is an important varietal trait.

Peduncle strength is a key selection criterion, as it determines the plant's ability to support large inflorescences without the use of stakes and without lodging under the influence of wind or precipitation. To improve the establishment of young plants, it is recommended to cut back peduncles in the first year of growth, and at the end of the season, stems are removed to the ground level when preparing for winter.
