The flower stalk of a gladiolus is the section of the stem extending from the last stem leaf to the first flower of the inflorescence, serving as a key parameter for evaluating varietal quality.

In gladiolus morphology, the flower stalk functions as a support for the heavy spike-like inflorescence, which may contain more than 20 buds. The strength of this stem section determines the plant's resistance to lodging under the weight of the flowers or due to wind and precipitation, which is critical for tall-growing varieties.

During breeding and cultivar evaluation, the height of the flower stalk and the length of the inflorescence are measured in centimeters. In tall, large-flowered varieties, flower stalks reach 160–180 cm, while in dwarf forms, this measurement is 50–60 cm. Curvature of the flower stalk is considered an undesirable trait that reduces the decorative and commercial value of the variety.
