Gladiolus L.

The gladiolus maturity group directly corresponds to the flowering period, measured as the time from planting the corm in open ground to the opening of the first bud. Depending on this indicator, varieties are divided into seven groups: very early (less than 75 days), early (75–79 days), early-mid (80–84 days), mid-season (85–90 days), mid-late (91–99 days), late (100–114 days), and very late (115 days or more). These values are indicative for the temperate climate zone and may vary depending on the region, agricultural practices, and the quality of the planting material.
The classification of a variety into a specific maturity group is critical for organizing continuous flowering in the garden and determining the schedule for corm lifting. Since the plant requires approximately 40–45 days after flowering to fully mature, late-season varieties in regions with short growing seasons risk failing to accumulate sufficient nutrients for proper storage.
