For roses, the flower stalk is an important morphological trait that is evaluated in breeding and commercial floriculture. Its length is measured on mature flowers during the peak flowering period and varies depending on the cultivar group; meanwhile, a sugar accumulation index (Brix) of 6–7% indicates the plant's readiness to form the next flowering flush.

Agronomic management of flower stalk development is carried out through the regulation of light regimes, temperature gradients, and mineral nutrition. Disruptions in these factors lead to stem deformations, such as "bent neck" or excessive elongation, which reduce the market quality of the cut flowers.
