Helianthus annuus L.
A biological trait that determines the duration of the sunflower vegetation period from emergence to physiological maturity, measured in calendar days.

The vegetation period of sunflower varies from super-ultra-early varieties maturing in up to 80 days to medium-late ones requiring between 116 and 135 days. Intermediate groups include ultra-early (about 90 days), early-maturing (70–100 days), medium-early (108–112 days), and medium-maturing (110–116 days).
The choice of maturity group determines cultivation technology: late hybrids have a higher yield and oil content potential but require larger sums of active temperatures. Early groups are preferred for regions with short summers and allow for the optimization of harvest timing before winter crop sowing.
