The use of artificial shading methods allows for programming flowering dates; however, night lighting can negatively affect bud initiation. Limited nutrient availability in containers is compensated by intensive fertilization in specialized peat and perlite-based substrates with a pH of 5.5–6.5.
After flowering, plants require a dormancy period at a temperature of 2–5°C, which is necessary to ensure flowering in subsequent seasons. In commercial production, container chrysanthemums are often treated as seasonal annuals that do not require overwintering.
