The management of the chrysanthemum life cycle is based on its photoperiodic sensitivity as a short-day plant. Vegetative growth is maintained when the day length exceeds 12 hours, while the induction of the generative phase and flower bud initiation require a reduction of the light period to less than 12 hours.

Plant compactness is ensured by the genetic traits of the Multiflora group, which forms a spherical bush, as well as by pinching the growing point to stimulate lateral shoots. In conditions of limited substrate volume, potted chrysanthemums require intensive irrigation with strict moisture control to prevent rot.

To maintain decorative quality during the flowering period, high-light locations are required, as light deficiency causes shoot elongation. After flowering, to recover, the plants need a dormancy period at 2–5 °C in the dark following preliminary pruning.
