A critical condition for cultivation is maintaining gas exchange of the roots, which possess velamen. Constant overwatering leads to their degradation, so transparent containers with side holes are used. Nutrition is carried out exclusively by low-concentration fertigation, as the root system is extremely sensitive to substrate salinity.
