Potted roses are extremely demanding regarding light intensity while requiring protection of the root system from overheating, which makes growing conditions similar to controlled-environment light culture technologies.

For container cultivation, predominantly compact, well-branching forms are selected, such as miniature or polyantha roses. An important advantage of the method is the ability to provide a controlled dormancy period during overwintering in facilities with optimal temperature regimes.
