For container cultivation, breeding series with a compact habit that do not require staking are preferred. Using containers with a volume of 5 to 12 liters with a mandatory drainage layer allows for controlling plant development and preventing rot in fleshy roots, which are sensitive to waterlogging.

Container cultivation provides the opportunity to accelerate vegetation by starting early in protected conditions. Unlike field cultivation, this method eliminates the traumatic annual digging of tubers: after pruning the aerial parts, the container with the plant is moved to a frost-free area for overwintering.

Caring for potted dahlias requires frequent watering due to rapid substrate drying, as well as regular fertilization within the limited volume of the growth medium. The optimal substrate consists of loose, permeable mixtures based on sod soil, humus, and peat.
