According to UPOV guidelines, the primary characteristics for variety description are the main color of the inner side of the ray floret and the presence of additional colors that define bicolor or variegated patterns.

The trait exhibits significant variability due to the complex flavonoid pathway of anthocyanin and carotenoid synthesis. Color can vary under the influence of night temperatures, light intensity, nitrogen nutrition, and soil pH. High ecological plasticity requires caution when diagnosing variety degeneration, as temporary deviations in shade may be caused by environmental factors rather than genetic degradation.
