In chrysanthemum variety testing, the color description is based on UPOV standards and includes an assessment of the main color of the inner side of ray florets, shades of secondary patterns, the color of disc florets, and the color of the bud. To eliminate subjectivity, the international RHS Colour Chart is used, and spectrophotometric analysis is applied to increase precision.
When evaluating a variety, color stability and resistance to fading under sunlight are recorded. Varieties with clean, bright, and consistent tones receive a high rating, whereas a tendency to fade quickly or the presence of muddy shades are considered defects that reduce commercial value and indices of varietal stability.
