The cultivation of chrysanthemums in containers is based on photoperiod management to control flowering and the shaping of the plant habit through pinching or the selection of genetically compact cultivars.

Flowering management for container chrysanthemums is achieved by regulating the photoperiod, as this is a short-day plant. Night temperature regimes are critical, as a decrease in temperatures during the initial stages can trigger premature flowering and reduce stem length.
Plant habit is shaped through apical pinching or by using Multiflora-type cultivars, which possess a genetically determined globular form. The production method involves direct sticking of cuttings into pots, where the substrate must be well-drained to prevent root rot.
The production cycle of chrysanthemums is 3–4 months. Due to high sensitivity to diseases such as white rust, container production requires strict phytosanitary control, adequate air circulation, and the prevention of substrate waterlogging.
