hybrids between Pelargonium peltatum and Pelargonium zonale
Interspecific hybrids of Pelargonium peltatum and P. zonale are an adaptive plant group for containers, combining stem strength, stress tolerance, and the ability for vigorous cascading growth.
In the reference 29 varieties crop Ivy-leaved geranium, where this is mentioned in the description.
Interspecific pelargonium hybrids combine the traits of their parent species: from P. zonale, they inherit upright or semi-trailing stems and profuse flowering, while from P. peltatum, they inherit glossy foliage, increased adaptability to temperature fluctuations, and the capacity for intensive shoot growth. These plants form more vigorous bushes than standard varieties, making them suitable for hanging baskets, window boxes, and tall planters.
Under container conditions, these hybrids exhibit high resilience in open areas, being more tolerant of moderate humidity and weather-related stresses. Agrotechnically, they require regular fertilization with increased phosphorus and potassium levels to stimulate flowering, as well as active pinching or pruning to shape a balanced habit within a limited substrate volume.
