The length of the peduncle in Pelargonium hybrids is an important morphological trait evaluated according to the UPOV scale during distinctness, uniformity, and stability (DUS) testing.

To evaluate the peduncle length of interspecific Pelargonium hybrids, the measurement method from the abscission layer at the stem to the base of the inflorescence calyx is used. According to UPOV and CPVO guidelines, the trait is assessed on a three-point scale of relative length: 3 points correspond to a short peduncle, 5 points to a medium one, and 7 points to a long one.

The expression of the trait directly affects the habit and ornamental value of the plant. Short peduncles are characteristic of compact varieties, allowing inflorescences to be positioned at the level of the foliage, which improves wind resistance and facilitates transport. Long peduncles, often inherited from specific species ancestors, can reduce ornamental value by causing the formation of a loose habit and an increased tendency to lodging.
