Cultivating New Guinea impatiens in containers requires strict control over moisture and substrate aeration to prevent root rot while maintaining high ornamental value and plant compactness.

For successful container cultivation of New Guinea impatiens, pots with a volume of at least 7.5–8 liters with mandatory drainage holes are required. The substrate must be well-drained, enriched with organic matter, and contain bulking agents such as perlite or bark, as the fleshy roots of the crop are critically sensitive to oxygen deficiency and waterlogging.

The plant requires moderate watering: overwatering leads to rot, while drying out leads to flower drop. The crop is sensitive to salinity (EC below 1.5 mS/cm) and temperature stress at values below +13…+14°C. Unlike Impatiens walleriana, New Guinea hybrids branch better without pinching and are resistant to downy mildew.
