New Guinea hybrids differ from other species by having fleshy stems and a vigorous root system that is sensitive to oxygen deficiency. For successful pot cultivation, a loose substrate with high-quality drainage is critical, as waterlogging triggers sudden wilting of the plants.
Unlike other species, these hybrids can tolerate direct morning sun but remain highly sensitive to cold at temperatures below +13…+15°C. The plants are day-neutral, which, when maintaining stable substrate moisture, allows them to bloom continuously while maintaining a compact form due to natural branching.
For container cultivation, it is preferable to use pots with a capacity of at least 7.5 liters to avoid stress from rapid moisture fluctuations. Excessive nitrogen application in pot culture is undesirable, as it stimulates only vegetative growth; for maintaining abundant flowering, the use of potassium fertilizers is recommended.
