For container cultivation of Lagerstroemia indica, it is critical to use dwarf and semi-dwarf cultivars, such as Acoma, Pocomoke, or Berry Dazzle, as the plant reaches significant heights under natural conditions. The substrate requires soil mixes with good aeration, drainage, and a slightly acidic reaction in the pH range of 5.0–6.5.

The mobility of the container allows the crop to be moved outdoors to ensure a minimum of six hours of direct sunlight, and during the winter, to protected areas with temperatures around +10 °C. Unlike open-field plants, container-grown plants require regular watering as well as moderate fertilization in early spring, as excessive nutrition promotes vigorous shoot growth at the expense of flowering.
