The pathogen primarily affects young tissues, including leaves, shoots, and flower buds, covering them with a white or grayish-white coating.
The infection leads to deformation, curling, and stunting of the affected parts, as well as bud abortion and premature leaf drop. In breeding practice, resistance is achieved through interspecific hybridization with L. fauriei, with transcriptome analysis identifying candidate genes associated with the biosynthesis of defensive metabolites.
