The technology allows for the management of plant development using the crate-rooting method at controlled temperatures of 8–14°C, which optimizes the quality of the root system.

The composition of the substrate is of great importance; it must be highly porous and have a specific pH: from 5.0 to 6.5 for Oriental and OT-hybrids, and from 6.0 to 7.0 for Asiatic and LA-hybrids. When planting, it is necessary to consider the lilies' sensitivity to planting depth and stem root development, as well as to apply stem elongation regulation methods, such as DIF.

Planting density and container volume directly affect plant physiology: excessive space can stimulate the growth of bulbils to the detriment of flowering. Since container lilies are highly dependent on agrotechnics, constant monitoring of moisture and substrate purity is required, as the limited volume of the container increases the risk of salt accumulation and infection by pathogens such as Pythium.
