The nutrient regimen for Pelargonium in containers is based on limiting nitrogen, an excess of which leads to excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowering. After rooting, it is preferable to apply potassium fertilizers. The upright habit of the plant requires regular removal of faded inflorescences to stimulate new buds, and high light intensity is necessary not only for flowering but also for maintaining the characteristic zonal coloration of the leaves.
Compared to other Pelargonium species, P. zonale demonstrates higher resistance to heat and sunlight, which makes it preferable for open container compositions compared to Pelargonium grandiflorum. The upright form of the bush allows for the effective use of this species to create vertical accents in balcony boxes and planters.
