Cultivation
Verbena L.
A method of growing verbena in a limited volume of soil, requiring a balance between container size, light conditions, and intensive nutrition to maintain continuous flowering.
In the reference 109 varieties crop Vervain, where this is mentioned in the description.
For successful development of verbena in containers, selecting the proper container volume is critical: bush forms require at least 5 liters per plant, while trailing and vegetative varieties need 10 to 15 liters. Insufficient volume negatively affects growth rates, necessitating control of planting density.
Agrotechnology includes shaping the habit by pinching above the 5th–6th leaf in trailing forms and mandatory removal of spent inflorescences to stimulate new waves of flowering. Verbena has high light requirements, needing 6–8 hours of direct sunlight to maintain a compact bush structure.
In a limited volume, the substrate must be loose and well-drained, as the crop is sensitive to waterlogging, which triggers root rot. Consistent aesthetic appeal is ensured by regular fertilizing with an emphasis on phosphorus and potassium, as well as maintaining stable, moderate soil moisture.
