Root rot of Aglaonema

The causative agents of root rot in Aglaonema are oomycetes of the genera Phytophthora and Pythium. Cases of infection of the species Aglaonema modestum by the fungi Fusarium aglaonematis and Fusarium elaeidis, leading to the decay of stems and roots, have also been described.

Symptoms include yellowing and wilting of leaves despite a moist substrate, as well as softening and slime formation on the root system. In the case of Fusarium infection, brown or black watery necrotic spots form on the roots and stems, and the process is often accompanied by a putrid odor from the soil.
