Powdery mildew of Calibrachoa

A fungal disease of Calibrachoa caused by Podosphaera xanthii, Pseudoidium neolycopersici, and Euoidium longipes, which often presents with latent symptoms in the early stages.

The primary pathogens of the disease are the fungi Podosphaera xanthii, Pseudoidium neolycopersici, and Euoidium longipes. The latter two species are characterized by specific morphological features, such as the structure of appressoria, the shape of conidia, and the length of conidiophores.

In the initial stages, the infection is difficult to diagnose as the characteristic white coating may be absent or extremely subtle. Primary symptoms manifest on the inner and lower leaves as slight chlorosis or purplish-gray spots. Subsequently, the affected areas become necrotic, leaves drop off, exposing the center of the plant, and the fungal sporulation becomes visible on stems and flowers.
