Calibrachoa Cuttings

Calibrachoa Cerv.

Cuttings are the primary method of propagation for hybrid Calibrachoa varieties. The process requires strict control of substrate moisture and acidity, as the crop is extremely sensitive to root rot and chlorosis.

In the reference 20 varieties crop Calibrachoa, where this is mentioned in the description.

Non-woody shoots 2–7 cm long are used for cuttings; all flower buds, which consume energy needed for rooting, must be removed. Using plug trays with small cell volumes is recommended, as the risk of rotting increases significantly in larger volumes of soil. The substrate must have high porosity, good aeration, and a pH level in the 5.4–5.8 range. The optimal substrate temperature for the first three weeks after planting is 22–23 °C.

Calibrachoa is more sensitive to overwatering and waterlogging than its close relative, the petunia. The plant requires more careful monitoring of soil acidity, as it is prone to iron deficiency when the pH becomes too alkaline. The rooting process for Calibrachoa takes longer than for petunias, requiring the maintenance of stable environmental conditions without excessive misting or fogging.
