A key feature of gerbera irrigation is the necessity of keeping the leaf rosette dry, as moisture on the root crown and in the center of the plant promotes the development of fungal diseases and rotting of the growing point. In commercial production, drip irrigation is the primary method, ensuring the supply of solution directly to the root zone, while overhead irrigation is excluded after plant rooting.

When grown on substrates, a drainage rate of 25–40% of the irrigation volume is required to ensure an optimal water-air balance in the root zone. The water supply regime is often calculated based on solar radiation intensity, which determines the rate of plant transpiration. Irrigation is always combined with fertigation, during which the electrical conductivity of the solution and the iron chelate content are strictly monitored, while the potassium concentration is increased with the onset of bud formation.
