Tulip Open-Field Cultivation

When planting in open soil, soil temperature is critical; it should drop to 10–15°C at a depth of 15 cm to prevent premature vegetative growth. To protect the basal plate of the bulb from pathogens and rot in heavy soils, it is essential to prepare raised beds and create a sand cushion at the bottom of the furrow, with a planting depth of two to three times the height of the bulb.

Unlike greenhouse forcing, plants in open fields are vulnerable to climatic stress, necessitating mulching of plantings for the winter. Due to the weak ability of tulips to suppress weeds, regular weeding is required. Annual lifting is carried out after the leaves have withered, which allows the bulbs to be moved into storage with mandatory heat treatment for the development of the next season's flower bud.
