Tulip bud

Metric parameters of the bud include height (from 3.5 to 7.5 cm) and diameter (from 3 to 11 cm). The shape of the bud, which varies from goblet and cup-shaped to lily-flowered, serves as one of the main criteria for varietal identification and description of tulips in catalogs.

The condition of the bud is assessed by phenological phases that determine the moment of harvesting: from a colored tip to full opening. Harvesting a closed, greenish bud too early prevents its subsequent opening, while over-exposure shortens the vase life of the flower. At the same time, bud quality directly depends on bulb size and the absence of viral diseases that cause deformation.
