Lodging — Echinacea (hybrids)

The causes of lodging in hybrids are often due to morphological mismatch: thin stems, inherited from one of the parents, cannot support the weight of large inflorescences. The risk increases with excessive watering or fertilization, which promotes excessive vegetative growth.

In practice, stability is evaluated visually by analyzing the plant architecture, categorizing varieties into those prone to lodging and those possessing natural uprightness. When planning agronomic practices, the relationship between nutrient management, light levels, and shoot strength is taken into account to prevent stem stretching.
