In natural forage lands, the productivity of common bentgrass is defined as dry matter yield and ranges from 1.1 to 2.5 tons per hectare. To improve these figures in meadow management, mineral and organic fertilizers are applied.
In turf breeding, the concept of productivity is replaced by turf quality assessment, the key criteria of which are shoot density, fine texture, low growth habit, and persistence. These characteristics are evaluated on a point scale and determine the suitability of the crop for ornamental lawns and golf courses.
